It didn't take long for the others to come in and begin removing the animals to send them off to their predetermined destinations.  For Nadisut, that meant the labs. Unfortunately for her, she wouldn't find out to much about her owner while there.

Upon arriving, she was quickly sedated so they could run a myriad of different tests. From X-rays to MRIs. Blood samples to hair and tissue samples. All was performed while she was out cold.  It was during this time, that Ice's brother Malcom had arrived to see him.

Ice greeted the commander in his traditionally cool, but still friendlier way he only did or family before getting right into it.  "Ok. The reason I brought you in is because I just got a shipment of exotic animals in for study.  A couple of them have some great potential for our living weapons division."

He mentioned this with a bit of caution as he knew he was already on thin ice (for lack of a better expression) for earlier secret research in this area. "Don't worry. Not messing with anything we know." Ice added with a slight smirk.  "However, it's a similar concern that had me call you.  You see, I think I need your unique skill set..."

Hours later...

When Nadisut woke up, she would find herself still in her cage, though with a notable few differences. Most notably, her animal food pellets had been switched out for a sampling of different fruits, vegetables, and nuts that an allergy screening deduced were ok.  A soft bed was also added.

A glance around the room would reveal she was in Ice's office again where both he and Malcom whom she had not encountered yet stood by talking.

Nadisut was groggy when she came to. Groggy, and sore. She moved slowly as she got up, stumbling and rubbing her head. What happened? Had she eaten some bad fruit and fallen into a thorn bush, or a basket of sewing needles? Shaking herself, she quickly realized that this wasn't home, and all the memories came rushing back. Her fur color swirled in drunken greens, and pale yellows through the grey as she got her barrings again.

For just an instant, it flashed white as she seemed to recall where she was. She looked around, noticing the new location, the two people talking nearby, the soft bed, and--

She froze on seeing the food, ears and tail straightening and fur flashing pale yellow in surprise. She stared at it, mouth watering and her fur turning a mix of dull orange and blue-greens. How long had it been since she'd eaten proper food, instead of pellets, or worse, that meat the idiot shopkeeper had kept feeding her, sometimes too old for even a carnivore to want... Were those really for her? Or was this one of those 'tests' Ice had mentioned?

Slowly, she crept towards the food, her ears turning to listen as the two men spoke, and her eyes changing color, one to match Ice's, one to match Malcom's. Picking up a small fruit, she looked it over, sniffing experimentally. It seemed fresh. Her stomach growled, but she didn't taste it yet, eyeing the men, more specifically, Ice, with suspicion. Who was that stranger he had with him? The dull orange of hungry was still clear in her coat, but the blue-greens of longing and happiness were quickly overtaken by a muddy yellow...

She sadly, would not be able to hear anything. For in point of fact they were speaking to each other telepathically so as to keep things private. But they were mouthing the words for her benefit. Just another test.  Eventually, Malcom broke away from Ice and walked over to her cage.

Bending over some to get down to her level, the armor clad warrior with Hus helmet at his side, smiled. Suddenly a voice sounded in her mind even though his lips did not move. "Welcome to STI.  My name is Viper.  What us your name?" He would be using the force to gently peer into her mind for any indication that she was more than what she appeared to be.

Unfortunately, Nadisut had not yet learned to read lips, so their conversation was lost on her. When Malcom came over to her, both of her eyes changed color to match his. When she sudden heard his voice in her mind, he got quite a reaction. Her eyes widened, hackles raised, ears flat against her skull and tail puffed up, and fur swirling white and yellow in alarm. The fruit fell from her hands and she clamped them to her head.

A very clear thought rang through her mind. What the kriff?! It was a swear word she had sadly picked up along her travels, but pretty summed up her feelings at the moment.

Malcom couldn't help but to start laughing.  He figured he'd startle her with that little trick, but this display was a bit more than even he expected. Speaking normally, he said, "Well now.  That's an interesting vocabulary you have....for an animal."

Turning toward Ice, he nodded.  "Aye. You were right. She's no more an animal than you or I." Returning his attention to the prisoner and continued.  "Now, darlin'. How about you drop the charade and tell us your story.  Otherwise, if you insist on playing the part of an animal,  we'll have to enter you into our breeding program. From there we'll just keep trying till we find a suitable mate that can handle you. So what do you say? Care to act like a person now? Or shall we go with option B?"

"After all. It certainly isn't a crime to put animals into breeding programs...after we trim down those teeth and claws to make you harmless of course." Ice added nonchalantly with a shrug of his shoulders.

"No!" she cried in answer to their "breeding program" suggestion, her coat flushing the color of mud in disgust, shot through with bright yellow streaks in fear, clearly outlining the pale claw scars across her shoulder blades and bite mark on the back of her neck from her last "mate". Memories flashed through her mind of fighting off those tooka, and that idiot shopkeeper continuing to put them into her cage. She remembered the last one, the feel of those deep wounds on her back, the taste of blood as she had bitten him for all she was worth. The pained yowl and the creature limping away with a broken leg...

She clamped both hands over her mouth, ears still flat to her head, tail now curled between her legs, shuddering.

Realizing that it was no use, she removed her hands, cowering before them, trembling as her fur turned a pure bright yellow. Fear radiated from her through the Force, and if Malcom looked inside her mind again, he would find it racing with memories and her own imagination gone wild. Scenes of a younger her with other youngsters of her kind around a fire, the oldest one telling scary stories. Another memory flashes of her capture, the tear filled eyes of two others of her race, seen through cage wire and moving away. The older clamping the younger one's mouth shut with a hand, trying to hide them both with its tail, fur the same color of the shadows they hid in, while the younger one's was pure yellow.

The other images flashing through the terrified Nadisut's mind were pure fear fueled imagination, her being killed and eaten, her on a dissection table, and even worse things...

"Please no..." she whimpered, tears welling in her eyes as she looking up at the men. Her voice when speaking properly had a thick accent, rasping and scratching. "Please... Don't... Don't kill me... Or... Or worse... Please..."

Ice looked upon the display with almost a bit of boredom.  "Why did everyone...absolutely everyone always have to be pushed in such a way to finally comply.  I mean seriously!  I speak nicely, sometimes I even offer to pay generously.  Nothing!  Almost never do people decide to take the easy road.  It's like the galaxy was just filled with nothing but sadists."  These were the thoughts running through Ice's head while looking on at the display provided by Nadisut, though he wouldn't voice them out loud or telepathically to anyone.

"A cowardly little thing....isn't she?"  He spoke telepathically to Malcom. He was suddenly having second thoughts to using her genetic material for his next science project.  Though the potential hadn't quite become outweighed by her cowardly tendencies just yet.

Malcom frowned lightly and gave a side ward glance to Ice that revealed he wasn't amused by his comment.  "Be nice...yes...but be nice."  Malcom replied telepathically.  Unbeknownst to his brother, the commander knew a lot more of her personal story to understand her current disposition. With her complete lack of understanding or training in shielding ones mind to the force, it was easy for him to read her thoughts.

He held up his hands in a way that said to calm down.  "Please...you needn't be so afraid.  We aren't actually the monsters from your fireside stories.  There has obviously been a misunderstanding.  Not entirely of which is not your own fault."  He said seriously, though with a small smile.  Crouching down to her level again he sighed.

"Look.  I need you to listen carefully.  Dry those tears, and please pay attention.  Can you do that for me?"  He waited for her response before continuing.  If it was an affirmation of his question, he would continue.  "Ok.  Allow me to assure you, that you won't be killed.  Nor will you be entered into any breeding program or harmed in any way.  However, you need to understand.  You have come to an extremely secure location through a less than completely reputable way.  As such, we need to be sure you are not some sort of spy."

"With that in mind, we will keep you secured for a while longer till we are assured you really are just a victim in all this and not a spy.  Do you understand?"

She listened as he spoke, ears perking at his reassurance that they weren't actually monsters. When he asked her to pay attention, she looked at him directly, eyes still colored to match his. Wiping her eyes with the back of a hand, she nodded to show that she was listening closely. The yellow from her coat was slow to fade, but eventually it returned to the storm grey.

At the end of his reassurance, she looked at him with a mix of curiosity and confusion, a pale yellow-green slowly spotting her fur. "What's a spy? It sounds bad. I'm lost... but, I'm not bad." She gave a wheezing sound that seemed to be a laugh, blue mixing into the other colors, "Heh... If I wasn't so scared, if this trip wasn't so dung covered, this might be the most interesting thing that's ever happened to me. I go out to explore away from home, and whoosh! I get stolen by an alien! Oh, nobody's going to believe this if I ever get back--"

She broke off, her ears drooping, and fur turning black... "I... They... they probably think I'm dead by now... Baby sister... She was so scared when I got caught... If big brother hadn't been there to hide her... What did they tell mom and dad?... How could I have been so stupid!"

She slammed a fist into the cage floor, her fur flashing red in her anger, before fading again to grey.

Ice took keen interest in the story.  A person with a cause was a motivated person and could be bartered with.  Stepping closer to the cage, he interjected before Malcom and his good nature could promise the galaxy for nothing.  "There, there.  You needn't worry.  We might just even be able to help you get back home.  However, as I said before.  Freedom must be earned.  Would you be willing to help us if we agreed to help you?"

Ice eyed Malcom for a moment when his brother turned to give him a warning look.  "Don't worry.  She won't be harmed."  Ice said telepathically to his brother before looking back to the prisoner for his answer.

She looked up as Ice spoke, one eye shifting to match his, while the other stayed Malcom's color. "You--you'd do that for me? That's the first nice thing anyone's done since I was taken. Besides that green headtailed one nursing me back to health..."

Sitting up, she stroked an ear thoughtfully, and said, "I'll help you, if it gets me home. I'm sorry for the way I acted. I just... Well how would you feel, snatched away from everything you know and love by something alien and bigger than you, just as smart, but that you couldn't talk to and all you knew about them was that they could kill you on a whim? I thought I was going to die, many times... I saw the way he treated the animals he caught, and how was I to know how he'd treat me if I revealed myself? I could not speak or read your alien words then. I've only learned to speak your words recently, and I still can't read them. I barely know enough to say this much to you. How do all you two-legs know the same words?"

"We are multilingual, actually."  Ice said while gesturing to he and Malcom.  "We speak a form of sign language, our own native tongue, and that of basic.  Basic...the words you are now using, is used by most the known galaxy as the generally accepted dominant language that most people use or at least know."  Taking a breath and cracking his neck to to relieve some stress based tension, he continued.

"And yes.  We are generally always open to make arrangements that benefit all parties.  However, I will warn you.  If you betray us and go back on our agreement in any way...we are not very merciful.  But!  If you live up to your end of the bargain, and perform well.  We are also very generous."  Pulling up a chair, he continues.  "So loyalty, rich reward.  Disloyalty, vengeance.  I have had people in the past not seem to understand this concept.  So I just want to make sure you completely understand what I am offering and the consequences for your decisions.  You sure you understand?"

In the end, Ice was getting the better side of this.  The poor thing was so desperate to get home, she seemed perfectly willing to perform almost any task to do it.  A perfect subject for his plans if he could drill into her head and make her understand that obedience and loyalty were her best friends at this particular moment in time.  Meanwhile Malcom was still standing by in silence just watching things as they happened.

She looked a bit confused by all of Ice's big words, most of which were new to her. "Uh... I'm sorry, but I still don't know much... Basic? And you're using many words I don't know yet..."

Her hands moved away from her ear, grooming the fur across her chest as she sat in thought. Plucking several loose strands, she played with them as she considered her next words and how to explain things. "My home is... We don't fight each other. We fight off meat eaters, but not each other. Stealing is almost unheard of. Mercy, I understand, we are taught that when children. Loyalty is what binds family. Betrayal? Vengeance? I don't know these things. But they sound bad. Betrayal, that is breaking a promise? What reason do I have yet? I don't trust you fully, no, but trust goes both ways, doesn't it? Vengeance... My people like to play jokes, sometimes the one getting the joke plays a joke back. But something tells me what you mean is worse than that... You mean to kill me, if I betray you? So I help you or I die? Is that it?"

She twirled the strands of fur in her hands, absentmindedly twisting them into a small thread. The movements seemed to relax her, though she tensed again as she finished speaking.

Ice thought on her reply for a bit before finally nodding in agreement.  "Yes.  That is basically correct.  Though I would much rather reward you than kill you.  So please understand that."  She did however, have a point on trust going both ways.  And she honestly didn't seem to be a spy more so than just a seriously unlucky individual.  So despite his earlier mention of needing to keep her locked up for now, Ice unlocked the door to allow her out.  He supported this idea by gesturing for her to come on out.

"Now then, do we have a deal?"
