Beggars Can't Be Choosers (Korriban)
« on: December 14, 2016, 06:47:49 PM »
He hated this planet.  Hated it.

There was nothing outright wrong with Korriban; it was dull, and appeared desolate from a distance, but the planet itself wasn't the problem.  Or maybe it was, he couldn't really tell.  He just always had a bad feeling, an uncomfortable one, being anywhere near the system.  It was like every instinct told him this was a place of evil.  Even if it wasn't the whole planet, this place reminded him of the presence of evil.  He chalked it up to that Smuggler Intuition, and because of that, he did his best to avoid Korriban, and frankly the Empire itself.

But as always the fate of the job-to-job smuggler, he was forced to face his fears as it were, and took a job for them.  The Alliance was just not providing like he hoped.  It forced him to toe that line, the line where his morals were laid, and what he could and would do.

In this case, either by luck or ignorance, his cargo was just that: cargo.  A full shipment, and good pay.  And the best part, Korriban had its own crew for removing such cargo.  Mostly droids and Imperial agents, but a crew meant he didn't need to worry about hiring one.  Instead he stood by the door, arms crossed, watching as boxes and crates were unloaded.  The sooner he was unloaded, the sooner he could leave, but first... first he needed to get paid.  He would not get far from the system without credits.  This was potentially the end of the line, and he prayed to whatever higher powers there were in the universe that this would not be one of those force users who would shove him off empty handed.

"Mister Pangea?"

A feminine voice called to Kenelli as he stood by his ship, watching the ground crew off-load the cargo. Turning to look, the smuggler would, somewhat alarmingly, find a trio of Imperial Stormtroopers walking towards him in full combat kit. To his relief however, the trio soon came to a rest in front of the man, adopting a relaxed stance, as the officer who was leading them nodded and greeted the half-breed.

"Good afternoon, mister Pangea." The lead trooper said, her rifle hanging from its shoulder strap as she folded her hands behind her back. "My name is Lieutenant Barret. I've been sent down here to bring you to the dockmaster's office. Apparently there's a Sith of all things, waiting there with your payment, and he wants to offer you another job . . ."

She paused and looked towards the office, which oversaw all the activity on the docks, before looking back to man.

"Can't say I envy you."

He heard the voice behind him, and a chilled dropped in his spine.  He turned and there they were... Stormtroopers.  The scourge of the galaxy... well not exactly.  But they were never good news.  Almost immediately he tried to find exits... even though he had everything in order.  Always talk your way out first.

"Hey, whoa, wait a minute.  I have the proper paperwork, this is all legitimate, I swear.  I'm just doing transport." he said, before they came to a stop.

The officer called his name again, and gave him news that he honestly wished he didn't hear.  Now he kinda wished they were there to question him.  It was safer.  Now he had to deal with a Sith.

"Another one.... blast my need for credits..." he said, half jokingly, and sighed.  He better get a move on.  The sooner business was handled, the sooner he could leave.

As she gave her last line, Ken had to stop, and turn, offering a very weak smile.  "Can't say I envy myself, either.  That makes two of us.  Five if you count your entourage." he said, before turning and heading up to the dockmaster's office.

It wasn't a long journey, but it was dreaded with every step closer, until finally he found the doorway, and walked through.

"I'm... I'm here for my payment." he said, a bit nervously.

Barret and the other troopers quietly followed along behind Kenelli, casting the cold gazes of their helmets around the hanger bay as they fell in line, with Barret in the lead. They weren't expecting any kind of trouble. Especially not here on Korriban. But with the recent death of Emperor Aegus, a strange feeling had fallen over what seemed like the entire Empire . . . A calm before a storm.

The group soon reached the dockmaster's office however, and the officer signaled for her men to wait outside, as she and the smuggler entered the room and she took up a relaxed position by the door, her hands on her hip and hip holster as she idly watched the proceedings.

. . . Maybe she would get lucky and get a lightshow out of this.

Acolyte walked out of the Dockmaster's office and right up to Barret and Kenelli, and spoke to them...

"So you must be the one I asked for Kenelli, and I believe you have met Barret. I believe the payment to your account was just approved and the funds should already be approved for your next two transports and this past one. I have need of your services and also require personal security, want to come along Barret?"

He looked at them both as though they knew what was happening. He suspected they already knew but he wasn't sure. He needed transport to the Hutt space for the drop off of package of something particular and then transport Terminus for a personal trip, and a return trip.

Barret titled her head at the Acolyte, confused. "Uh . . . maybe you want to slow it down there Sith?" She asked, glancing at Kenelli. "I'm pretty sure neither of us know who you are or what you're talking about. And I can't exactly abandon my duties here at the spaceport."

The Stormtrooper shifted her stance, folding her arms across her chestplate defensively.

"What is it that you need? Some errand for your master?"

"Put in the needed paperwork. Should be fast trekked given the situation. But you don't have to, if you want to stay here."

Lao responded, looking around at the docks and then continued

"So I need a transport to a few different destinations by unofficial transportation that is off the books from most Empire related operations. It can't be officially on the books because well we are transporting cargo that would be considered against the well wishes of the Hutt Cartel. As far as Terminus is concerned, I am looking for a person that has a small shipment of crystals that are lightsaber quality. These are necessary for my lightsaber and for anyone here at the temple that wants something different."

Lao looked at them both, waiting a response.....

"T-thank you..." Kenelli responded, before the Sith before him decided to throw the bombshell of hiring him.  Oh no, oh no...

Lucky for him, he wasn't the one who had the gall to speak up against the Sith.

Still, no magic blade appeared, and in fact this Sith seemed to just... go with it.

"Transport, passenger and cargo?  And the Hutts.  I guess I can't really refuse either way." he said, shaking his head.

"What... what kind of cargo are we talking about?  Other than the crystals."

"Weapons that could be loosely defined as military grade, and as much as your transport can hold. Literally. You'll get paid twenty percent more than your usual amount."

Lao said, he was pretty frank about and wanted everyone on the same page. He looked at Barrett and said..

"For you, if you want to stay here that is fine. But I'm sure it's boring work and escorting an Acoylte into hostile territory could provide some entertainment and possible a recommendation or at least the Sith looking favorable on you. Not saying that I could get you out of this detail."

Barret's face contorted behind her helmet as the Sith made mention of her current posting. She and her men had been stuck at that crummy spaceport for months now . . . checking off cargo manifests and arguing with ship captains and upper-class twits for far longer then she cared to think about. If there was a chance of getting out of it . . .

"This acolyte you mentioned, its you right?" She stated, shifting her stance again and trying to play it cool. Folding her hands behind her back to mask her impatience. "Hmm . . . I guess I could take some time off of my duties here. My second in command should be able to handle things."

The stormtrooper then glanced at kenelli.

"I hope your ship is big enough. How large are the crew quarters?"

Weapons... he was going to smuggle weapons against the Hutts.  Or for the Hutts and against the Empire, but somehow, having a Sith leading the delivery made that second option much less likely.  Against the Alliance?  That was also a likely scenario, one that he just wasn't comfortable with.

But have enough visions of a light blade going through your mid-section, and you listen to that bad voice that cautions against angering Sith warriors.

"Large enough... I can push 14 as my limit.  8 comfortably.  You aren't planning a contingent with you, are you?" he asked cautiously... soldiers tend to attract attention.  He didn't like attention.

"So... when do you want this transaction?"

"Probably just myself and two other troopers . . . in plainclothes and simple body armor." Barret replied, looking away from Kenelli and towards Lao, shifting her stance. "I know the value of discretion, despite what you may have heard."

Stars above! Yes! She was getting out of that hole! No more boring security duty for her! Now the Lieutenant just needed to decide who would be going along with her on the ship . . .

"Sounds like a plan. Let me notify the docking people to load up your ship with the correct supplies."

Lao said to Kenelli as he then turned to Barett and mentioned...

"Grab your men and I'll meet you on board. And I'll notify command that I need a special transport and have selected you with a small group as security."

Lao then turned and started for the docking masters area. It should ST take him too long to notify the Docking Master or at least his office to make the switch and assign the shipment of weapons to Kenelli's ship. It shouldn't take Lao to long as he also pulled out a datapad and made the proper requisition for Barett and her men. For such a small operation it should be approved fast, especially since he was one of Shin Akuma's Acolytes.

Acolyte Lao Tzu walked up to the Docking Master, and waited in a short line of three other commercial crew members. Once it was his time, he stepped up to the Docking Master pulling out a datapad and giving it to the Docking master who was a old human male, Lao Tzu said...

"Docking Master here should be the correct forms for me to make use of the ship that's listed on there for Sith usage. I've already noted where you should sign and then please submit the forms. Don't worry, you'll get a copy for your records, Sir..."
